Facing Sin!

I have a dear friend facing a tough challenge in her life. It has been a big part of my prayer life over the last week and I want nothing more than for her to overcome this challenge. Heavenly Father, help her to overcome and to see a victory that can only come in you. Amen!

I have seen quite a few of my faith friends facing challenges lately. They are being attacked because they are growing in their faith. (Some may think this is weird to say, but I believe that when people grow in their faith, they are placed in the sights of evil, to keep them from going further.)

God tells us to confess our sins to each other:

"Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results." (James 5:16)

As much as I believe that my faith friends are being attacked, I also believe in the power of prayer to overcome any challenge. I know people who have overcome the challenges of alcohol addiction, pornography, financial ruin, and broken relationships directly because of prayer.

We cannot give the evil in this world more power than it truly has. We have access to the power of the Creator, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We should never doubt the victory God promises over all things, especially when we face sin in our lives!

All of this brings me to Jeremiah. I was reading Jeremiah 10-12 this morning and realized there have been very few people under attack as much as Jeremiah:

"Then the Lord told me about the plots my enemies were making against me. I was like a lamb being led to slaughter. I had no idea that they were planning to kill me! 'Let's destroy this man and all his words,' they said. 'Let's cut him down, so his name will be forgotten forever.'" (Jeremiah 11:18,19)

He was speaking the truth and his words came directly from God. The people in his own hometown wanted him dead. They wanted him silenced. His words threatened their livelihoods. His words were convicting and true. Yet, several thousand years later, his name was not forgotten.

God has been speaking to my friends. He has been allowing these challenges to proceed just as he did with Jeremiah. Yet, their confession of sin has unleashed a powerful, supernatural army to protect them and to overcome the challenges they face. I praise God for a victory we have not yet seen, but that we are assured will happen. Thank you, Lord, for defeating the sin we face in our lives. Thank you, Lord, that we do not have to face our challenges alone!

I know how difficult it is to confess the sins that you face in life. But, I encourage you to find someone, a group of faithful followers of Jesus, to share those sins with. Help expose the power of Jesus Christ over the weakness of the evil that surrounds us. The chains of sin that hold you captive will be broken and YOU WILL EXPERIENCE VICTORY IN JESUS!
