Great Question!

Jeremiah shared a great question after he was forcibly relocated to Egypt.

"Why are you destroying yourselves?" (Jeremiah 44:7)

He went on and said, "Why provoke my anger by burning incense to the idols you have made here in Egypt? You will only destroy yourselves and make yourselves an object of cursing and mockery for all the nations of the earth." (Jeremiah 44:8)

Wow! That is a great question we could ask today!

In our society, we take full credit for all our success, our money, and our fortune. Yet, we never accept any of the blame for the bad things that happen in our lives. Many people blame God for the failures in their life. They say God does not care about them. Many people claim their unanswered prayers prove the non-existence of God. Read this:

"We will not listen to your messages from the Lord! We will do whatever we want. We will burn incense and pour out liquid offerings to the Queen of Heaven (The Queen of Heaven was the goddess Ishtar, a goddess of love fertility, and war worshipped in Mesopotamia.) just as much as we like.... Ever since we quit burning incense to the Queen of Heaven and stopped worshipping her with liquid offerings, we have been in great trouble and have been dying from war and famine." (Jeremiah 44:16-18)

These people were so blinded. They could not see that their troubles were not because they stopped worshipping the idol. Their troubles were because they stopped worshipping the ONE TRUE GOD. The blessings they had in the past were a direct result of GOD's MERCY, GRACE, and FAVOR.

We have turned from God and still want him to grant our every wish. We want to "do whatever we want" ignoring God's will and still get mad when he does not answer our prayers.

Are we any less stubborn than these survivors of Jerusalem's destruction? They saw what happened when an entire nation rebuked God, but they didn't learn anything from the experience. They continued to worship false Gods and blamed God when things didn't go well. The Lord asks us the same question,

WHY ARE YOU DESTROYING YOURSELVES?

Turn to the Lord while he can be found. Don't just blindly destroy yourself, your family, and your community. The Lord CAN and WILL save you, if you just turn to Him!
