You need a mentor!

Who are your trusted advisors? Do you have a mentor? A Spiritual confidant? Do you have someone to speak truth into your life, even when it is unpleasant truth?

As I was reading Daniel, Chapters 4-6, this morning, my first thoughts were of Billy Graham. Daniel was a trusted advisor of the Kings that ruled during the exile. He was a mentor, of sorts, a spiritual confidant, and someone who spoke truth into the lives of these rulers even when it was unpleasant. Billy Graham was our modern-day Daniel. Many of the presidents during his lifetime asked Billy Graham to meet with them. The best part of these meetings, they were private, closed-door meetings. I am sure Billy Graham spoke truth into their lives.

In chapter 4, Nebuchadnezzar had a dream about a tree getting chopped down. No one else could interpret the dream. He called upon Daniel,

"This is what the dream means, Your Majesty, and what the Most High has declared will happen to my lord the king. You will be driven from human society, and you will live in the fields with the wild animals. You will eat grass like a cow, and you will be drenched with the dew of heaven. Seven periods of time will pass while you live this way, until you learn that the Most High rules over the kingdoms of the world and gives them to anyone he chooses. But the stump and roots of the tree were left in the ground. This means that you will receive your kingdom back again when you have learned that heaven rules.

King Nebuchadnezzar, please accept my advice. Stop sinning and do what is right. Break from your wicked past and be merciful to the poor. Perhaps then you will continue to prosper." (Daniel 5:24-27)

Daniel had earned the respect of the king. Otherwise, he would have been put to death. Daniel earned his right to speak truth into the king's life, not by compromising his faith, but by speaking truth. Daniel listened, he sought advice from the Lord and then he spoke into the lives of these leaders.

Do you have someone you allow to speak truth into your life? Do you have someone who will listen, seek God's guidance and then offer advice? You need someone to walk alongside you that you trust and that you know is filled with the wisdom of the Lord. God loves using his messengers to speak to his people. Find someone!

I pray this does not sound arrogant. But, I would love to be that person in your life! If you are reading this and need someone you can trust to listen, mostly, and to speak God's truth in your life. I would love to join you for coffee and talk about it! If not me, find someone. God will use your time together to transform your life!
