Don't mess with my kids!

I love my daughters, their spouses, and my grandkids. If you want to see me angry, mess with them!

Did you know God is the same way with his children?

The book of Obadiah is a great example.

"Because of the violence you did to your close relatives in Israel, you will be filled with shame and destroyed forever. When they were invaded, you stood aloof, refusing to help them. Foreign invaders carried off their wealth and cast lots to divide up Jerusalem, but you acted like one of Israel's enemies. You should not have gloated when they exiled your relatives to distant lands. You should not have rejoiced when the people of Judah suffered such misfortune. You should not have spoken arrogantly in that terrible time of trouble..." (Obadiah 1:10-12)

Edom went too far in their poor treatment of Israel and the prophet Obadiah let them know enough was enough. God's wrath was about to be unleashed. That does not mean Israel was perfect. We have recently read of their MANY imperfections. My kids aren't perfect either and YES, they can frustrate me. YES, they also deserve some punishment for their failures. That does not give you the right to attack them.

I am not always a staunch defender of the nation of Israel. I have seen firsthand their treatment of Christians. It is not fair or just how they treat many of the Christians that live in their midst. But, no nation, especially a nation of God's children deserves to be ruthlessly attacked like they have over the last three weeks. They have every right to defend themselves and I think they have the support of God. Yes, they are far less than perfect but don't mess with God's children. This happens over and over again within scripture. God will always come to our defense, he might eliminate the evil. He might destroy them. He might weaken them. He might just remove you from the situation. He might even let them go for a while to help us grow closer to him. In the end, he will deal with the evil that is attempting to destroy his people.

"The day is near when I, the Lord, will judge all the godless nations! As you have done to Israel, so it will be done to you. All your evil deeds will fall back on your own heads." (Obadiah 1:15)

If we can learn anything from the Bible, it is how much God loves his children and will come to their defense when attacked by evil. I pray for Israel and I pray that those who persecute God's children around the world will change and turn to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The God who sent his SON to save his children from the sins of the evil one will always be there to deliver those who have chosen to follow him!
