Hark the Herald Angels Sing!

I love this scene from Charlie Brown's Christmas. Whenever I hear this song it brings me great joy and this vision! Looking at todays political climate filled with woke ideology, I am amazed at the powerful message Charles Shultz and the creators were allowed to share with the world. We could use a lot more of Charlie Brown and his hope for the world!

Angels were a big part of the Christmas Story. From the Angel Gabriel visiting Mary to the Heavenly Host proclaiming Jesus' birth to the Shepherds, we see all of heaven rejoicing at God coming to live with us.

(I started reading Hebrews today. After completing a study of the prophets of the Old Testament, I am jumping to the New Testament, non-Pauline books outside the Gospels.)

The letter is written to Hebrew Christians and addresses many of their misconceptions about WHO was Jesus. The first of those misconceptions might have been the Jesus was somehow an Angelic being or at least on the same level as the angels. The writer of Hebrews wants to make it clear, Jesus was far greater than the Angels.

Jesus is God. He chose to lower himself, coming to earth, to save us from our sins. The brith of Jesus is the pivotal moment where God decided to act, bringing salvation to the lost. This single event two thousand years ago changed everything for me, a lost sinner, needing God's grace for salvation!

"What we do see is Jesus, who for a little while was give a position "a little lower than the angels," and because he suffered death for us, he is now "crowned with glory and honor." Yes, by God's grace, Jesus tasted death for everyone. God, for whom and through whom everything was made, chose to bring many children into glory. And it was only right that he should make Jesus, through his suffering, a perfect leader, fit to bring them into their salvation.

I love to visualize the shepherds watching over their flocks and the angels appearing singing, "Glory to God in the Highest, Peace on Earth, Good will toward men!" What a terrifying and yet glorious sight that must have been. Thank you Lord for humbling yourself and coming to earth as a child, born to humble parents, proclaimed by a vast heavenly host! It just makes me want to sing!

Hark! The herald angels sing"Glory to the new-born kingPeace on earth and mercy mildGod and sinners reconciled"Joyful all ye nations riseJoin the triumph of the skiesWith angelic host proclaim"Christ is born in Bethlehem"Hark! The herald angels sing"Glory to the new-born king"
Hail the heaven-born Prince of Peace!Hail the Sun of Righteousness!Light and life to all He bringsRisen with healing in His wingsMild He lays His glory byBorn that man no more may dieBorn to raise the sons of earthBorn to give them second birthHark! The herald angels sing"Glory to the new-born king"
