Does God's Plan Feel Like a Mystery Novel?
I think I made one of my daughters mad during Christmas. Long Story Short - I bought a laser engraver/cutter on the first of November. I am learning to use it as a way to increase the revenue for our ministry "the meeting place." I made gifts for each family and grandkids. As I was doing this, I posted the finished products on social media. My daughter scolded me for taking the mystery out of Christmas for her. Yep, she was right! As an adult, mostly giving gifts, much of the mystery of Christmas is gone. Mom especially, knows just about everything that everyone gets. Adults get their joy by watching the surprise and excitement as their gifts are revealed. But, there is nothing like a good mystery to get your juices flowing!
(As I was doing some research for this blog, I ran across Diann Mills, a Christian mystery writer. I borrowed her picture above. But, as I read her blog and more about her, I think I need to read one of her novels. I have not read a good mystery novel for quite some time. Here is a link to her website. Diann Mills website.)
Reading through the book of Revelation is like reading an exciting mystery novel. We wait with great anticipation for what is revealed in the next verse or the next chapter. We know how the story ends, but it is still exciting to see what's next. God's plan is a great mystery and John saw a vision, but some of the plan, he had to keep a secret!
"Then the angel I saw standing on the sea and land raised his right hand toward heaven. He swore an oath in the name of the one who lives forever and ever, who created the heavens and everything in them, the earth and everything in it, and the sea and everything in it. He said, "There will be no more delay. When the seventh angel blows his trumpet, God's mysterious plan will be fulfilled. It will happen just as he announced it to his servants the prophets." (Revelation 10:5-7)
So many people read Revelation wanting to know the day and the hour, wanting to know the time and place and all the juicy details that will lead up to Jesus coming again. So many theologians and pastors live to know it all and reveal it all to you and me. Yet, in my studies over the past couple of weeks, I realized there is great excitement and joy in NOT knowing everything. It's the same for starting a new year. 2024 is a mystery to us. IF you don't have Jesus in your life, it would be easy to dread the unknown that will be revealed over the next 365 days. Many people brace themselves with fear and trepidation as they enter a new year. BUT, if you have JESUS as your King, we know that regardless of what happens or what is revealed, WE WIN!!!!!!!
I praise God for the excitement and mystery of life. I praise him that he has great plans for us and YES, there will be trials, temptations, trouble, and in some cases persecution. God has us in the palm of his hand and nothing that will happen is a surprise to him. There is nothing that happens that will harm us. PRAISE GOD FOR HIS MYSTERIOUS PLANS!
