Liar, Liar, Facebook's on Fire!

Hahahahaha! I think this should be the knew catch phrase of Facebook!

Did you ever wonder where the saying, "Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire," came from? I was curious and did some research. The fact is, no one really knows. The saying shows up in some newspaper articles in the early 1900's and a famous children's quote, "Liar, Liar, pants on fire, nose as long as a telephone wire," makes a reference to Pinocchio. I found it fascinating that many attribute it to a poem printed in 1810 by William Blake. Ironically, that itself is a lie. The poem was created in 2010 and is a LIE (unless, of course, that source is lying! LOL).[1]

Sadly, we could use this children's saying often in today's political climate. It is hard to distinguish the truth from a lie in our information age! Just because you saw it on Facebook, doesn't mean it is true! There are many times I could see Facebook's pants on fire! Another irony in our world is that the "fact checkers" now have to be fact checked. They are the source of many lies while claiming their place in the name of truth! Where do we go to discover the truth?

"Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: 'Look! I am placing a foundation stone in Jerusalem, a firm and tested stone. It is a precious cornerstone that is safe to build on. Whoever believes need never be shaken. I will test you with the measuring line of justice and the plumb line of righteousness. Since your refuge is made of lies, a hailstorm will knock it down. Since it is made of deception, a flood will sweep it away." (Isaiah 28:16,17)

Jesus Christ is the way, the TRUTH, and the life! (John 14:6) As our foundation, as our cornerstone, we can look to him for the truth. We are not shaken by the lies of this world. We have a solid foundation on which to measure all things. We can measure them against the ultimate truth, righteousness, and justice that is found in Jesus. This truth stands up to all "fact checks," all challenges, all storms, all floods of evil. If you want to live a life in the truth, above the turmoil of the lies of this world, come to Jesus. Lies are exposed through Christ and the source of those lies is none other than the father of lies:

"Jesus told them, 'If God were your Father, you would love me, because I have come to you from God. I am not here on my own, but he sent me. Why can't you understand what I am saying? It's because you can't even hear me! For you are the children of you father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies. So when I tell the truth, you just naturally don't believe me!'" (John 8:42-45)

Believe in Jesus and your eyes will be opened to the lies of this world. Reject the father of lies and the truth will set you free.

Even though I have never seen a liars pants actually on fire, there are liars of all types among us. God loves the truth and living in the truth provides a peace that is unexplainable. Seek the truth and He will be found! Seek Jesus!
