Yes, sir …..(NOT)
I have noticed people who have been forgiven for a lot are most appreciative when forgiven at all. AND those who have very little in the way of wealth and possessions appreciate gifts a whole lot more than those who have everything.
I can’t imagine anyone disagreeing with those statements. I get a chance to work with a group of women who have been in the pits of hell. Yes, much of it was their own doing, but when they are forgiven and come to know Jesus, I have never seen a more dedicated group or Jesus followers. Yet, when I see seasoned Christians who have been blessed with an immense amount of wealth and prestige, they always seem to want more.
I really thought about the above topics when I was reading the parable of the two sons in Matthew 21.
“But what do you think about this? A man with two sons told the older boy, ‘Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.’ The son answered, ‘No, I won’t go,’ but later he changed his mind and went anyway. Then the father told the other son, ‘You go,’ and he said, ‘Yes, sir, I will.’ But he didn’t go. ‘Which of the two obeyed his father?’ They replied, ‘The first.’ Then Jesus explained his meaning: ‘I tell you the truth, corrupt tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the Kingdom of God before you do. For John the Baptist came and showed you the right way to live, but you didn’t believe him, while tax collectors and prostitutes did. And even when you saw this happening, you refused to believe him and repent of your sins.” (Matthew 21:28-32)
There is nothing that would make me more upset than a member of the team saying, YES, I will do something, but never end up doing it. That lie is so blatant and powerful. Sin that is deliberate is also not tolerated by God. But, what about us? Do we do that with God/? How many times has God told us to go up and witness to someone, we said yes, only to chicken out at the last min. Saying Yes, should mean yes. Listening and not obeying is just as bad as not listening at all, maybe even worse.
Do what God has called you to do and when you say yes, follow through to the best of your ability!
