Accept the Call!
I get so many SPAM calls each week. So, I have a system. I am sure this system isn’t new, but I try to tell anyone who tries to reach me by phone how to make sure I answer their call. First, if I do not have you in my contact list, I am not answering your call. I apologize to those calls I have missed that were valuable. Second, If you want to speak to me and I do not answer, LEAVE A MESSAGE! I PROMISE I will return your call, sometimes immediately. That would be especially true in the case you are not in my phone contact list. AND if you call me once and I call you back, the problem is solved as long as you keep that phone number, because it goes into my contact list.
I was reading 1st Corinthians 2 today and was thinking about being called by God.
“Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing wha the world considers important. As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:26-29)
I find it completely amazing that God called me. I fit these verses perfectly. I am NOT powerful. I am NOT wealthy. God chose this “nothing” to spread the Gospel. The more and more I realize what a gift I have received, the more it makes me want to serve.
But, just like me not answering my phone calls. YOU have to answer the call from God. And to take the analogy a step further, if you don’t have GOD in your “Contact list” how are you going to know it’s HIM calling you and not just some SPAM call. In order to know God’s “number” you have to speak to him, build a relationship with him, and get to know him. When Jesus said my sheep know my voice, he very well could have said, “Yes, my sheep have my cell phone number!”
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10)
A long time ago, God made a list of good things he planned for you to complete. He has patiently waited for you to respond, to accept his phone calls, and get busy serving him. He has given you gifts and abilities that you have ignored. STOP IGNORING THEM!
ACCEPT GOD’S CALL, listen for his voice, seek guidance from your spiritual mentor, pray, pray, pray, and then pray some more that God’s will is completely revealed in your life!
