Be Careful Who You Trust!

In this day of “information overload” we have access to every kind of information available to man. We can read, watch, and listen to an amazing assortment of personalities that claim to share the truth. I am a big fan of the internet because I learn so much and one of my strongest traits is the desire to learn. BUT, we really have to be discerning when we seek wisdom, guidance, and direction from man. The best plan is to just go straight to the source of all wisdom, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Prayer is the best place to seek wisdom, guidance, and directing the choices we are faced with on a daily basis. But, God also puts people in our lives that can help us navigate this world. That is where we really need to BE CAREFUL!

For example, I have developed a cadre of pastors that I watch and follow on the internet. I know what they stand for. I know what they preach and how it matches the Word of God. It has taken me a while to follow this group of God’s servants and build them into a single valuable resource.

In 2 Thessalonians 2 we hear about a “man of lawlessness” that will be coming to deceive us and lead us away from God. It will not be easy to discern who this is ahead of time.

“Don’t be easily shaken or alarmed by those who say that the day of the Lord has already begun. Don’t believe them, even if they claim to have had a spiritual vision, a revelation, or a letter supposedly from us. Don’t be fooled by what they say. For that day will not come until there is a great rebellion against God and the man of lawlessness is revealed — the one who brings destruction.” (2 Thessalonians 2:2-3)

I thoroughly vet my sources when I am researching any topic AND I use a trusted set of advisors that help clarify the Word of God in my life. That is my advice to all of you. Develop a discerning mind that is not easily swayed, stay grounded DAILY in God’s word. The filter is exclusively God’s word. There is no better response to the attacks of the enemy than studying the word of God and engaging in continuous prayer.

“I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return. May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation — the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ — for this will bring much glory and praise to God.” (Philippians 1:9-11)

“My child, don’t lose sight of common sense and discernment. Hang on to them, for they will refresh your soul. They are like jewels on a necklace. They keep you safe on your way, and your feet will not stumble. You can go to bed without fear; you will lie down and sleep soundly.” (Proverbs 3:21-24)

Seek discernment and common sense from the Lord. Realize that people are sinful and total reliance on others is less than perfect, but necessary. Seek God’s guidance who those people should be in your circle of trust. Go to them often, pray for them, and grow together in the  knowledge of the Lord!
