God’s wonderful design!

I tried to do some research to find the most written about sin in the Bible. Most of my research didn’t turn up anything specifically defined as the number one stumbling block of man kind. I certainly believe idolatry, although it looks differently now than it did in the Bible, is still one of the greatest barriers between God and man. We just love to put other things ahead of God and we worship them. Money, materialism, power, and authority, all are things we worship instead of God. Murder and the taking of innocent life is another sin that is found throughout scripture and certainly continues today. Another very prominent sin in our world, that has been an issue since the beginning of time, is sexual sin.

I have had more questions about sexual sin, divorce, homosexuality, transgenderism, and related topics than any other. Yet, in my mind the Bible is more clear about these and related sins than nearly anny other category of sin. Now let me be clear, these sins are not unforgivable, they hold no more of a place in life than any other sin. ALL SIN LEADS TO DEATH.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

AND, I cannot address all the complexities of this sin, as viewed through scripture,  in a short blog. But, as you read God’s Word, pay particular attention at the place God gives to sexual immorality.

God gives sexuality a prominent place from the beginning with Adam and Eve being joined as one flesh.

“So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the Lord God took out one of the man’s ribs and closed up the opening. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man. ‘This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called ‘woman,’ because she was taken from ‘man.’ This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.” (Genesis 2:21-24)

The Bible is very clear, the two that become one are a man and a woman. Nowhere else is there an alternative. And there are many places where the alternatives are severely dealt with by God. You cannot dispute this was God’s plan, it was his design. God does not make mistakes and his laws have withstood the tests of time. Anything that goes contrary to the design of God is sin and if we come to the saving grace of Jesus Christ, we need to acknowledge and repent of all things that we have done that are contrary to God’s plan and have separated us from Him.

In, 1 Corinthians 6:12-20, Paul wonderfully describes this sin. I love his advice at the end of that chapter:

“Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. SO you must honor God with your body.” (1 Corinthians 6:18-20)

I am not sure there are people reading this blog that are deep into this sin. But, if there is I would say this,

“I love you!” My heart aches for anyone who knows God’s plan and refuses to acknowledge the sins that enslave them. My only desire for you, is that you would join me in eternity at the feet of Jesus. In order to do that, to demonstrate my pure love for you, I must share this biblical truth. AND, like God, I am patient with you and will love you regardless of the sins you commit. I do not judge you, but I have the obligation to let you know that God will judge you and out of my love for you, I must share that concern and my desire for you to fully experience the love of Jesus Christ both in this life and in the life to come.
