We are READY for the next Adventure!
We are ready.
Ready for what?
Whatever God has in store for Stephanie and I!
I think we often discount the commitment we make to Jesus. You see, I confessed to Jesus that I was a sinner when I was 12 years old. I publicly proclaimed Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I believe that he died on the cross and that he rose again, defeating death and my sins, once and for all. I asked him to direct my life for his glory. But, that last part of my commitment is really my weakness and it has taken me 50 plus years to really be happy with letting the Holy Spirit be in charge. And, in all reality, I still try to take control back from him on a regular basis. But, when I let the Lord REALLY control my path, I am in for an adventurous ride.
Right now, Stephanie and I are just about to start another amazing adventure or more accurately to add another twist to a current adventure.
Today, we were presented as candidates for a Senior pastor position at a church in Central Indiana. We spent the last month interviewing, praying, fasting, seeking God’s will, talking to our trusted advisors and family, and walking through the open doors God has placed before us.
I was reading 1 Corinthians 8 today and although it is about eating food and meat sacrificed to idols (which really doesn’t apply, LOL). I was struck by its content:
“There is one God, the Father, by whom all things were created, and for whom we live. And there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things were created, and through whom we live.”
Stephanie and I completely live for the One God of the Universe who came to live with us 2000 years ago and sacrificed His Son that we might live with him in eternity. A part of that commitment, living for Him, is going wherever he calls.
We have one more step before we start this new adventure. In April, we will travel to be with this congregation for a “candidate weekend.” During this time we will get to know them and they will get to know us. On Sunday, April 13th (Palm Sunday), I will preach. After that, the church will vote if they feel God is sending us to be their next Senior Pastor. We cannot lose. We believe that God is in control and when we live for him, we can’t lose. It is so freeing to be at his mercy. We trust him and know his powerful hand will continue to guide us and this congregation. His will be done!
“Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, ‘This is the way you should go,’ whether to the right or to the left.” (Isaiah 30:21)
There are a couple of Proverbs that I love:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
“We can make our own plans, but the Lord gives the right answer. People may be pure in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their motives. Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.” (Proverbs 16:1-3)
We are looking forward to relying upon God’s will in all we do. We are counting upon him to show us the correct path. His plans are our plans and we cannot wait for the next adventure!
