A strong Defense!
Are we called to DEFEND THE FAITH?
YES, the Bible tells us we are called to DEFEND the Faith.
“Dear friends, I had been eagerly planning to write to you about the salvation we all share. But now I find that I must write about something else, urging you to defend the faith that God has entrusted once for all time to his holy people.” (Jude 1:3)
I have to admit I am somewhat addicted to social media. Not for bad reasons, I love using social media as a tool to have fun, a tool to spread God’s word, and a tool to stay connected with people that I love but don’t get to see too often. One of the things I love to do on Facebook is watch videos of people defending the faith. Wesley Huff is one of my favorites and I love the logic of Charlie Kirk. I also love the common sense theology of Trent Tribe and as I am sitting here this morning I could make a longer list.
Defending the faith is such a big deal to me. As followers of Jesus Christ we are under attack and if I read correctly we have always been under attack and those attacks won’t end until Jesus comes again. I do know that a lot of people just ignore the attacks. I am just too competitive to NOT respond. Now, look, I understand GOD DOES NOT NEED DEFENDING. He is God, no one can intimidate him, or stress him out, or cause him to lose sleep (HAHAHA - he never sleeps!) So when I go on the defensive it is not to defend God, it is to defend the faith and my faith family. WE ARE IN A BATTLE. The battle is real and there are weapons used against us. But, listen to what 2 Corinthians says:
We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ. And after you have become fully obedient, we will punish everyone who remains disobedient.“ (2 Corinthians 10:3-6, NLT)
The greatest weapon I have is found in prayer and the power found in the word of God. There is nothing that can stand against prayer and the word. Satan attacked Jesus and was defeated through the word. We have access through that word AND with the Power of the Holy Spirit in prayer! Praise God.
For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” (Hebrews 4:12, NLT)
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)
