I am a speeder!
I am a follower of Jesus Christ and I do not believe in “jinxes” I say that because I am confessing today that I am a fast driver. I had a friend who once told me that speed limits are just “mere suggestions.” The good news? I have not been “caught” speeding for quite a long time! (While I do not believe in “jinxes,” I do believe God has a wonderful sense of humor and he might orchestrate an end to this long standing speeding ticket drought just for fun.
I don’t justify my speeding. It is wrong and when I get caught, I pay the consequences and fully apologize to the officer and Stephanie! LOL!
I was reading the book of Romans today, chapter 7, Paul’s topic of discussion to the believers in Rome is THE LAW! I love these verses:
“So the trouble is not with the law, for it is spiritual and good. The trouble is with me, for I am all too human, a slave to sin. I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate. But if I know that what I am doing is wrong, this shows that I agree that the law is good. So I am not the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it.” (Romans 7:14-17, NLT)
I know speeding is wrong. Yet, I do it anyway. AND I am not debating whether the law of speeding is a good thing or not. The speed limits are valuable because people are not good at making decisions about what is safe and not safe. While I think I can still completely control my vehicle at a faster speed, I have to admit, there are times I have caused safety issues because of my lead foot!
God’s laws are a good thing. His laws are meant to give us the best life and when we ignore them, we miss out on the best life God has planned for us! It is that simple. The reason we think we know more than God and thus ignore or violate his laws is because of the SIN in my life. When we turn our lives over to God we are no longer slaves to the sin that has prevented us from experiencing the life God wants us to have.
As I have gotten older and realize my poor judgment, when it comes to speeding, I am less compelled to speed. I should say “I am working on it!” In fact, I am doing the same thing with the SIN in my life, “I am working on it!” As I look back at where I have been to where I am now, I can only say, PRAISE GOD for his patience and the power of the Holy Spirit! Without that grace, mercy, and love, I would still be a slave to SIN!
