Old People

I know I am old…… AND yes, some of you are WAAAAYYYY older than I am. But, I still have moments each day that I really feel old. One of the ways to know you are old…… listen to your conversations. If it centers around who is sick, who has what surgery scheduled, who is recovering from surgery, how difficult it is to get going each morning, or any conversation about where someone lives (LOL), you will know you are old.

When I met this weekend with the youth at SMDCOG, I was so invigorated. I can SEE the work of the Lord in their lives. I can see their desire to grow and to share the gospel. I can see their love of FUN and the joy of life. It was a blessing to sit with them and we didn’t talk about medical procedures! (LOL)

So, how does this relate to Scripture. Read this:

“For we know that when our earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands. We grow weary in our present bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies. While we live in these earthly bodies, we groan and sigh, but it’s not that we want to die and get rid of these bodies that clothe us. Rather, we want to put on our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by life. God himself has prepared us for this, and as a guarantee he has given us his Holy Spirit!” (2 Corinthians 5:1-5, NLT)

HAHAHAHA! I know maybe I should not laught at Scripture. But, I love where it says, “we groan and sigh.” YES, that is what OLD PEOPLE (including me) do! But I can tell you, regardless how bad I want to ditch this earthly body, there is still work to do and God has not called us home yet.

My message to you OLD PEOPLE, even in the aches and pains of life, even in the tiredness, and the changing culture, the technology, the sin that infiltrates our communities, GOD IS NOT DONE WITH US YET! Keep up the fight. Keep spreading the GOSPEL message, find someone to disciple and to share your wisdom. We celebrate today the power of the cup and the bread. We celebrate the gift of service Christ demonstrated by washing the feet of his disciples. We celebrate all the bad that happens through Friday, because we know EASTER, RESURRECTION SUNDAY is just around the corner!

HAPPY EASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
