What’s wrong with my TRUCK?

I love my wife! I have a meeting this morning and she suggested I take our “pretty” truck to the meeting. I chuckled at her. I knew what she was saying without saying it. My little red truck is not pretty. (The picture above shows the “good side.” Like me, it has a good and a bad side. LOL!) But, I love my little truck. Sure the drivers seat leans one way, the dashboard is cracked. The speaker covers are broken. It has pealing paint and rust on the bumper. But, I love my little red truck. AND, yes, I might be judged differently by driving it versus the shiny white F150 we own. Do you want to know why I love my little truck? We have a bond. We are both old, we’re not too pretty, but we both run and get the job done! LOL!

I’m not 100% sure why I thought about this when I was reading Romans 12 today,

“Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all. Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.” (Romans 12:15-18, NLT)

I think the part about not being “too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people,” is what made me think about my little red truck. There is no way someone thinks of me as someone important when I drive my red truck and that is a good thing. I am just an ordinary person. The only chance I have of being someone special is because they see Christ in me. That’s it!

I hope that people judge me by who I am more than what I drive. This is the standard I want to be judged, even though, I don’t always meet that standard:

“Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. When God’ people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.” (Romans 12:9-13, NLT)

In some ways I hope I am judged by my truck. Loving my flawed truck is a symbol of Christ loving me, a flawed, broken vessel, that is doing my best, with limited success, to follow the will of my Heavenly Father. I am just an ordinary guy who drives a beat-up, old, red truck. I love the Lord and am blessed by him in ways I absolutely don’t deserve. Thank you Lord, for your deep abiding love!
