Filling the CLOSETS!
This house has a "ton" of closets. But, it seems we are in the process of filling them rather quickly. Sometimes it is hard to believe just six years ago we purged all of our STUFF to fit into a fifth wheel. In a very SNEAKY way, we have been accumulating MORE stuff AGAIN. I don't think we are TRYING to acquire more, it just seems to just happen.
Yet, I am more content now than I have ever been in my life with the THINGS I HAVE. A roof over my head, food, clothing, a wonderful family, friends, and a mission from GOD, what else do I need?
I was reading 1 Timothy 6 this morning and I hear Paul sending a clear message to Timothy. We need to pursue a GODLY LIFE more than pursuing the STUFF OF THIS WORLD. Paul tells Timothy that his teachings are promoting a godly life, but that many people in this world see FAITH as just another means to WEALTH. Then he says this:
"Yet, true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can't take anything with us when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content." (1 Timothy 6:6, NLT)
How content are you? When it comes to material contentment, I am about as content as I have ever been. I am almost embarrassed by what I own materially. I am embarrassed because I know who I am and who I should be. I clearly do NOT deserve what I have and how I have been blessed. That is the PURE GRACE OF GOD working in my life.
But, one area of my life I am NOT CONTENT is in spreading the gospel. I have this insatiable desire to get people excited about JESUS and about sharing him with friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, and classmates. SO many times I just don't understand why PEOPLE don't just EXPLODE sharing the GRACE GOD HAS SHOWN THEM. So many people don't pursue making disciples because it is uncomfortable, it is hard, it takes time, and there is VERY LITTLE REWARD for them. My life's mission is to save just one more person. I pray that will be your mission as well.
Here are the final instructions to Timothy:
"But you, Timothy are a man of God; so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses." (1 Timothy 6:11-12, NLT)
FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT PEOPLE!!!!!!! BE CONTENT with MATERIAL THINGS, but NEVER BE CONTENT UNTIL THE WHOLE WORLD IS IN LOVE WITH JESUS!
