DAD JOKE FEST!
Spending time this week with six of the G-kids in California has disrupted my regular bible study schedule. This morning we were having a "DAD JOKE FEST." If you look on FACEBOOK, you will see the results. I love Dad Jokes and my daughters are NOT fans, but they have gotten to the point where they TOLERATE them. Dad Jokes are a tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation in my family. That ridiculous kind of fun is so important for a family. Life seems to be so strenuous sometimes. Having lighter moments helps me realize this pain, suffering, and stress will not last forever.
I had the chance to read 2 Peter this morning between the fun and the chaos. In chapter 1 as Peter is nearing his death he is only concerned with passing down his FAITH in JESUS CHRIST to the next generation.
"For our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me that I must soon leave this earthly life, so I will work hard to make sure you always remember these things after I am gone. For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw his majestic splendor with our own eyes." (2 Peter 1:14-16, NLT)
As I get older and older, I am not just thinking about passing down the DAD JOKE TRADITION. I am praying, like Paul, that people will remember my faith after I am gone. I pray they will remember the message that I tried to spread. I pray they will grasp its fullness and be so filled with the SPIRIT of the LORD that they also have to pass it on.
Are you doing the same for your FAITH IN JESUS? Are you passing it down to your family, friends, coworkers, fellow students, and community? We pass down so many keepsakes, and cute little family traditions. I wonder if we work as hard passing down our faith traditions and make sure the next generation knows and loves our SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST?
