I KNOW STUFF!
Favorite Scriptures Day #10
I need this shirt!
I'm a pretty smart guy! It wasn't always that way. I was just an average "C" kid in high school, but at during my junior and senior year of high school I really blossomed and realized I KNEW STUFF!
When I went to college I earned top honors while achieving my B.S. in Mathematics and computers. I received two B's in college, one for an English class (that story is for another day) and the other B was in Statistics. (I'm not sure how that happened!) When I earned my Masters in Biblical Studies, I earned all A's. So if you measure INTELLIGENCE by book work, or the amount of USELESS trivia I know, I am pretty smart! LOL! I can FIGURE THINGS OUT.
But, I do have a problem. I LEAN WAY TOO MUCH on my UNDERSTANDING!
It has taken most of my life to acknowledge that all my BOOK KNOWLEDGE and all my INTELLIGENCE is useless if I don't let the CREATOR of the UNIVERSE control my life. That is why I really love this passage of scripture:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do and he will show you which path to take. Don't be impressed with our own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones." (Proverbs 3:5--8, NLT)
Most people have verses 5 and 6 memorized, but for ME the next line is the most applicable. I am WAY TO IMPRESSED with my own WISDOM. I have lived life like I have everything under control, like I don't need God. Oh, I have kept him near just incase I became overwhelmed with the situation. (Trust me, it has happened a lot!) But, for the most part I had the plan, I carved out my own path.
Now I realize really HOW DUMB I am! It is like I was trying to match wits with the GOD of CREATION and expecting to win! I don't care how many degrees you have, how many books you have read, how much STUFF you have stored in your head, thinking you can out THINK your own creator is, to put it mildly, RIDICULOUS!
Lord, forgive me for my arrogance and my reliance upon my own wisdom. Your patience with this slow, self-centered man is remarkable. I love you dearly and am so happy to be a reformed WISE GUY! I completely yield to you, your plan, your wisdom, your strength, and your power. I pledge to follow you with MY WHOLE HEART for the rest of my days. Use me for all your glory! AMEN!
Today I want to include one of my favorite prayers. I read it way back in April 2021. It is originally a covenant prayer from the United Methodist Hymnal.
Put me to what you will, rank me with whom you will.
Put me to doing, put me to suffering.
Let me be employed by you or laid aside for you, exalted for you or brought low for you.
Let me be full, let me be empty. Let me have all things, let me have nothing.
I freely and wholeheartedly yield all things to your pleasure and disposal, AMEN!
