Defeated by an INVISIBLE ENEMY! LOL!

I either have a cold or I have allergies. I have never had issues with allergies, but I have classic symptoms. I have had watery, itchy eyes for over a month. My nose is constantly running and I am about to buy stock in KLEENEX. And, now I have a sore throat to go along with it. My guess, using my superior knowledge and intellect, (LOL!) I have allergies to the pollen and stuff flying around in the air. Whatever it is, it is certainly getting the best of me this morning. I am being defeated by an enemy I can't even see! LOL!

This morning in Isaiah 10, I was reading Boasts of the King of Assyria:

"By my own powerful arm I have done this. With my own shrewd wisdom I planned it. I have broken down the defenses of nations and carried off their treasures. I have knocked down their kings like a bull. I have robbed their nests of riches and gathered up kingdoms as a farmer gathers eggs. No one can even flap a wing against me or utter a peep of protest." (Isaiah 10:13-14, NLT)

Man, this guy is pretty arrogant. He is confident in himself and all HE has done. What he needs is a bout with allergies to knock him down to size! LOL! If he encountered POLLEN he would realize he is easily defeated by even the smallest unseen, invisible thing. He needs to realize he is nothing without the power of the Creator of ALL THINGS!

In all seriousness, does this king sound any different than people today? We have such confidence in ourselves, in our own abilities, what we can do, that God doesn't even get an after thought. They would read these passage of scripture more like a proud resume for someone wanting a promotion. When I read these scriptures I think he should be praising God for allowing his success. As a matter of fact, we read throughout Chapter 10 how GOD is using this king's arrogance and pride to punish Israel for her sins. In fact, even though this king is FAR FROM GOD, God is using him for His glory.

I love the next verses in Isaiah:

"But can the ax boast greater power than the person who uses it? Is the saw greater than the person who saws? Can a rod strike unless a hand moves it? Can a wooden cane walk by itself?" (Isaiah 10:15, NLT)

We are nothing without the power of God. If we think we are so great, how can a tiny speck of pollen, which can't even be seen, get us down?  How can we be defeated by the smallest of trials? The King of Assyria and the people of our modern day need to realize they have nothing without God. We have no strength, we have no wisdom, we have no treasures, we have no success without the power of the Lord Jesus Christ. AND our power is so weak that even the dust of the air hampers our day.

Heavenly Father, I come to you today as a humble man, realizing I am nothing without you. I accomplish nothing except through your powerful will, your mercy, your grace, and your love. My life is not mine. My life is yours and I praise you for the joy of serving you. Please Lord watch over me, please Lord, guide my path; guide my words; guide my deeds that I might be your messenger in my world today. Amen!
