The Answer to VIOLENCE: JESUS!
It's hard not to get the NEWS out of your mind. I used to be a news junkie. I lived by my morning news programs and constantly watched and listened whenever I had a chance. But, after a while I realized how much the impact of world events had on my daily life, my anxiety, my stress, and my fear. I just had to stop. I just couldn't do it any more. I still try to keep up with world events, but I greatly limit my intake of the news and it is on my terms. Besides the loss of Charlie Kirk a brother in the faith, there was also a shooting in Colorado. We should mourn the violence of these events and the trend of violence and hate in our country and around the world. When we start to feel like the world is spiraling out of control, never forget who is in control and his plans to deal with the wickedness and sin that surrounds us. Most importantly we have to keep from letting the NEWS and WORLD EVENTS from destroying our spirit. '
Listen to what I read just this morning in Isaiah:
"The Lord has given me a strong warning not to think like everyone else does. He said, 'Don't call everything a conspiracy, like they do, and don't live in dread of what frightens them. . Make the Lord of Heaven's Armies holy in you life. He is the one you should fear. He is the one who should make you tremble. He will keep you safe." (Isaiah 8:11-14a, NLT)
We cannot react to the sin in the world with fear. We cannot panic like the rest of the world being paralyzed by that fear. We cannot develop an attitude of "conspiracy," a kind of cynicism that lives in hopelessness and fear of our shadow. It is fear that the enemy uses to keep the gospel from being spread throughout our community. It is fear that keeps a church from going out and loving others. It is fear that keeps us locked up in our churches loving only those who love us.
When this scripture says "make the Lord of Heaven's Armies holy in your life" that is old Testament for MAKE JESUS LORD OF YOUR LIFE." Jesus should be our sanctuary, our respite from the world, but we also are not to live in isolation. We are to go out and boldly proclaim the Love of Jesus to this hurt and dying world.
Are you living in fear? Are you consumed by the devastation we see on the news? Are you paralyzed and don't know where to turn?
Jesus is the answer. Turn your life over to him. Don't live life in fear. Charlie Kirk was a follower of Jesus. He no longer has to face the pain and violence of this world. He is safely in the arms of Jesus. I mourn for his family, but there is hope for them to be reunited with him in the arms of Jesus. I pray we can all turn to the Lord of the Universe to receive comfort today and to defeat fear. If you have never done that, today is a good day to make that choice.
In order to make the Lord of Heaven's Armies holy in your life, you must confess your sin, repent, and turn toward God. Acknowledge what he did for you on the cross, that he died there taking on all your sins, but he defeated death by rising again and living, even today. The commit yourself firmly to him.
