Praise God for the Farmer!
You can tell winter is around the corner. My snowbird friends are talking about heading south. I am wearing a sweatshirt this morning and I have seen the farmers working in the fields near our home. The harvest season is here. I was writing my sermon yesterday and realized how much I DO NOT KNOW about FARMING. I have a church member who has invited me to come out and ride with him while he is taking out his crops. I would love to do that. I love learning new things, but alas, I haven't made time to do that. Maybe next week!
I have a lot of respect and honor for FARMERS. They work so hard. They battle the elements, the UNCERTAINTY of weather. They always need rain or have too much rain. It is always too hot or too cold. From what I do know their entire livelihood is literally, in the hands of the Lord. But, THEIR WORK keeps us alive, they keep us fed and their work sustains us.
Listen to what it says in Isaiah:
"Listen to me; listen, and pay close attention. Does a farmer always ploy and never sow? Is he forever cultivating the soil and never planting? Does he not finally plant his seeds -- black cumin, cumin, wheat, barley, and emmer wheat -- each in its proper way, and each in its proper place?
The farmer knows just what to do, for God has given him understanding. A heavy sledge is never used to thresh black cumin; rather, it is beaten with a light stick. A threshing wheel is never rolled on cumin; instead, it is beaten lightly with a flail. Grain for bread is easily crushed, so he doesn't keep on pounding it. He threshes it under the wheels of a cart, but he doesn't pulverize it. The Lord of Heaven's Armies is a wonderful teacher, and he gives the farmer great wisdom." (Isaiah 28:23-29, NLT)
I am THANKFUL for the FARMER and his WISDOM. God has blessed us with men and women who work the fields for us. They have wisdom beyond all of us. May GOD BLESS THEM and give them REST during this very busy time of the year. May they be filled with PEACE as they go about their daily chores. May they get all the HELP they need, the weather to complete their work, and LOVE knowing how valuable they are to us!
Praise God for the Farmer!
