ROUTINES are BORING, SOMETIMES!
I AM A CREATURE OF HABIT.
I love routine and predictability. Routine provides a level of comfort. When I first retired I had a HARD TIME adjusting. When you are a teacher a bell goes off every 80 minutes or so and then you teach your next class. You start the day at precisely the same time. You eat lunch at precisely the same time. You get done with school at the same time. I take my nap at the same time. I loved it and hated it all at the same time. I loved the routine, but routine can be SOMEWHAT BORING and that routine becomes meaningless. So, once in a while it feels good to change things up.
This week Stephanie and I are heading to Chicago area to a CHURCH CONFERENCE and it will be a welcome change to the routine. A few weeks ago we changed the routine when we went to California. Next week we will have a different routine because family is coming to town on Tuesday and Thanksgiving is on Thursday.
My biggest problem with CHANGING MY ROUTINE is that I sometimes forget GOD. When I am in my rhythm I always find time for God. My prayers, my devotions, my study time, all neatly fit into my schedule. By the time we hit DECEMBER 1st I will be looking forward to my normal routine!
I think one of the messages I could have emphasized yesterday -- MAKE GOD A PART of EVERY DAY even when your daily routines are interrupted!
"So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31, NLT)
God is always a part of my ROUTINE even if that routine is disrupted. I pray, I read scripture, and I seek God's direction in both the regular routines of life and when things are DIFFERENT. Even if there are days I do not have time to write these devotionals, God is still the center of my life. Last Friday was a good example. I even sat down and wrote the devotional. I just didn't have time to post it.
I love the Lord so much that I can't stay away from him. I am so thankful he comes with me in my daily routine and he comes with me on the days, the schedule changes. I give him the GLORY because he deserves all glory, honor, and praise. I thank him for the routine and the predictability just as much as I praise him for the NOT SO PREDICTABLE DAYS.
EVERY DAY IS AN ACT OF WORSHIP. EVERY moment, eating, drinking, driving, walking, or sitting typing a blog, can ALL BE DONE FOR THE GLORY OF GOD.
Heavenly Father, I am reminded today, never to leave you behind. I know you are always there but I do have a tendency to get busy and forget to connect with your love, your peace, your joy and your wonderful grace. Thank you Lord for your patience waiting for me to return to you. I love you LORD and I GIVE YOU ALL THE GLORY AND HONOR AND PRAISE ONLY YOU DESERVE. AMEN!
