CLEAR OUT THE FOG!

Right now I am going through 50 applications for a PART TIME ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT at SMDCOG. Trying to narrow down the list is sometimes mind boggling. I know there are people that do this for a living and I would pray for God to bless them, because they have such an important task matching people to the right job. Finding just the right person to fit into MY VISION, which I am trying to align with God's vision for this job, is somewhat of a daunting task. Every application, every resume, is a series of choices I have to make. The IDEAL would be that I could get to know each candidate for a week or more, spend time with them, get to know their families, their upbringing, what makes them tick, what excites them, and what makes them angry. That just isn't realistic. Going through this search requires a clear head and a lot of deep prayer to make the RIGHT CHOICE.

This scripture came to mind this morning:

"So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded. Night is the time when people sleep and drinkers get drunk. But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation. For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us. Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever. So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing." (1 Thessalonians 5:6-11, NLT)

I have been fascinated by a single word in this passage. What exactly does it mean to be "CLEARHEADED?" That word is mentioned twice in this scripture. In the ESV it says to let us be "SOBER" to keep awake, to be calm, and collected in spirit. In my mind being clearheaded means don't let outside distractions affect your judgment. We need to trust in the HOLY SPIRIT who lives inside of us, to guide our thoughts, and our choices. The more we connect with the HOLY SPIRIT the more we will be able to discern what he is telling us.  The more we fellowship with the SPIRIT the more we get to know his plans, his desires, and we are more likely to HEAR HIS VOICE above all others.

Do you pray for the HOLY SPIRIT to speak loudly? Do you pray the HOLY SPIRIT will help clear your head so the only voice you hear is HIS? I am praying that this morning. Quiet time is my time to really clear my head, to empty my thoughts of the distractions of this world. It takes a lot of work to EMPTY your mind of everything except the voice of GOD. Sometimes, when it is warmer, taking a walk helps my clearheadedness. sometimes just staring at the ceiling does it. What is your method to clear your mind?

Lord, speak to me through the power of your Spirit. Please, Lord, remove the distractions, the fog in my mind that I might hear only your voice. Whether it is looking for a staff member, preparing a message or devotion, or whether I am making plans for the future, help me to focus on your plans, your direction, your thoughts. I certainly cannot do this on my own. I praise you now Lord for your inspiration, your encouragement, your love, your grace, your mercy, and your kindness as you guide and direct all of my activities today. Amen!

How do you CLEAR YOUR HEAD in order to hear the voice of GOD speaking throughout your day?
