GIVE IT UP!
What are we FRETTING ABOUT?
So, scripture tells us not to worry and many of us DON'T WORRY...... Instead we FRET about STUFF! I really don't see there is much difference between WORRY and FRET. Maybe it just sounds better. I think FRETTING about something is being ANXIOUS about something or UNEASY about something. To fret over something is just a step below full blown worry.
I was reading in Acts today about a group of people that were all in a TIZZY (FRETTING) about PAUL and his trip to Jerusalem.
"Several days later a man named Agabus, who also had the gift of prophecy , arrived in Judea. He came over, took Paul's belt, and bound his own feet and hands with it. Then he said 'The Holy Spirit declares, 'So shall the owner of this belt be bound by the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem and turned over to the Gentiles.'' When we heard this, we and the local believers all begged Paul not to go on to Jerusalem. But he said, 'Why all this weeping? You are breaking my heart! I am ready not only to be jailed at Jerusalem but even to die for the sake of the Lord Jesus.' When it was clear that we couldn't persuade him, we gave up and said, 'The Lord's will be done.'" (Acts 21:10-14, NLT)
I love this story. The writer, Luke, and the local church members were all stressed out about what Paul was going to face when he arrived in Jerusalem. In their minds the message from the prophet should be seen as a warning to AVOID the trip. Paul was not going to do that. He was already at peace with whatever was going to happen to him. But PAUL, knew the reality. TO LIVE OR DIE, WE CAN'T LOSE. Listen to what he said:
"And I trust that my life will bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die. For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better. But if I live, I can do more fruitful work for Christ. So I really don't know which is better. I'm torn between two desires: I long to go and be with CHrist, which would be far better for me. But for your sakes, it is better that I continue to live.'" (Philippians 1:20b - 24, NLT)
I am constantly reminded NOT TO WORRY or FRET. I can't lose regardless what happens. If I live I am blessed. If I die I am blessed. If I face trials, I am blessed. If I face sickness, I am blessed. If my life spins out of control, I am blessed.
We have a choice to make. We can FRET over the uncertainty in life. We can WORRY over the trials we face? OR, we can be anxious about NOTHING and turn it OVER TO THE LORD.
WHY FRET? For the faithful follower of JESUS, there is NO REASON to fret, worry, or be anxious. God has a plan to use all things for his glory! Praise God! Do we believe it or not! Paul was such a great leader. Paul's confidence in the LORD, completely calmed his group of followers. One of the best lines in scripture says,
"When it was clear that we couldn't persuade him, we gave up and said, 'The Lord's will be done.'" (Acts 21:14, NLT)
Hey, how about just skipping all the worry and the fretting and go right to TRUSTING THE LORDS WILL?
GIVE IT UP!
How about just releasing all that anxiety, sleepless nights, the fretting, the tension, and let the Lord take care of things!
Heavenly Father, Thank you for the joy in my life. Thank you that I no longer DWELL in anxious, fretting thoughts. I praise your name because of the peace I feel knowing you are in charge. You have that PERFECT PLAN LORD, and I am so excited to see that plan revealed. AMEN!
