WAR MOVIES!

It has been a long time since I watched a good old fashion WAR MOVIE. I love movies that mimic real life and the battles we have with the enemies of this world. I am really fond of the old world war II movies, the John Wayne style movies. But, wow, it has been quite a few years since I watched one. I think that is why I love the Old Testament so much. There is a lot of the old fashion "war movie" in the Old Testament. Many times the Psalms remind me of the battles our country has faced and won.

"The Lord lives, and blessed be my rock, and exalted be the God of my salvation -- the God who gave me vengeance and subdued people under me, who rescued me from my enemies; yes, you exalted me above those who rose against me from the man of violence. For this I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations, and sing to your name. Great salvation he brings to his king, and shows steadfast love to his anointed, to David and his offspring forever." (Psalm 18:46-50, NLT)

The wars we face today are very different than those of the world wars. But, we cannot deny that we are still in a battle. The enemy is the same. Evil lurks in our communities, in our nation and around the world. I do not consider myself to be a conspiracy theorist, but there is a growing effort by the enemy to destroy the BIBLICAL family consisting of ONE man, ONE woman, and their children. The Family is under attack. EVEN Creation is under attack. Every day on the news we hear about battles to redefine men and women, to redefine marriage, and even within the church many are redefining JESUS. Our ENEMIES are not using regularly warfare. The war is of words and ideas. It is more dangerous than the BEACHES of NORMANDY.

This was also true in the early church.

"At this their anger boiled, and they began shouting, 'Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!' Soon the whole city was filled with confusion. Everyone rushed to the amphitheater, dragging Gaius and Aristarchus, who were Paul's traveling companions from Macedonia. Paul wanted to go i, too, but the believers wouldn't let him. Some of the officials of the province, friends of Paul, also sent a message to him. begging him not to risk his life by entering the amphitheater." (Acts 19:28-31, NLT)

Paul and the early Christians were in a battle just like we are today. We cannot fear that battle and even when we are on the frontlines winning hearts away from the enemy, we need to stand strong and realize we have a ROCK who rescues us from the enemy, who will subdue the attackers. Salvation is our goal. Our leader is KING JESUS. Charge on to victory, just like the early Israelites and their battles against the hostile nations of the world.

Heavenly Father, Help us to realize we are in a battle and that the enemy is real. Help us to depend upon you for protection and upon you to rescue us when we get ensnarled by those who oppose you. Guide our thoughts, our hearts, our minds, and our spirits in battle. We know the final victory, but our goal is to grow your kingdom. Help us achieve that goal. AMEN!
