Are you lying to yourself?

As a Christian I am pretty confident. When we see someone who is confident it is easy to develop a profound trust in them. Great leaders demonstrate both STRENGTH and CONFIDENCE. They are not easily shaken. But, the question should be asked, what or WHO are you confident?

Are we more CONFIDENT in ourselves or are we more confident in the LORD?

I have to admit I often fall back to relying on my own strength and my own skills when in a difficult situation. I rely too much on my own wisdom, my own skills, and my own strength when I attempt to tackle life's problems. Confidence is a good thing but am I arrogantly relying on myself over reliance upon the God of the UNIVERSE? When you think about confidence in yourself or confidence in the Lord, I imagine all of us we admit God is the only real source of our confidence.

Listen to what Psalm 33 tells us:

"The best-equipped army cannot save a king, nor it great strength enough to save a warrior. Don't count on your warhorse to give you victory -- for all its strength, it cannot save you. But the Lord watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his unfailing love. He rescues them from death and keeps them alive in times of famine. We put our hope in the Lord. He is our help and our shield." (Psalm 33, 16-20, NLT)

Just like the psalmist, I have a tendency to rely on the wrong thing in "battle." The warhorse can only do so much. Our own talent, skill, and confidence can only do so much. Sometimes God allows us to go into a losing battle just so we will rely more on him than we do our warhorse. Sometimes we face challenges that are just too much for us because GOD WANTS US TO RELY UPON HIM!

I am lying to myself when I think I can handle all situations in my own power and strength. I am lying to myself when I have confidence in my HUMAN skills and wisdom.

Don't lie to yourself. In your weakness, in your vulnerability, God will come and rescue you. He is our HELP AND SHIELD. He is our ever-present help in times of trouble. When we are WEAK HE IS STRONG!

Heavenly Father, Please forgive me in my overconfidence in my own abilities and being way to independent. I truly need you and want you, your strength, your wisdom, and your guidance on all things. You are my help and shield. I treasure your rescue in times of trial. Thank you Lord for loving me through all my weaknesses. In your name I pray, Lord Jesus. Amen!
