LIFE IS SHORT and not about ME!
I spent the last couple of days planning a unique worship service for GOOD FRIDAY. During that process I watched the end of "THE PASSION of CHRIST" multiple times. It is so painful to watch. Stephanie and I have had that discussion many times. The pain CHRIST ENDURED for me is just incomprehensible. THE BLOOD! I have sung the songs about CHRIST shedding his blood for me more times than I can count, but it all seems so sterile when you are singing a song. The beauty of a song does not bring out the ugliness of the sacrifice. While I was planning the worship for GOOD FRIDAY, I wanted the power of those events to be real. I pray it will be meaningful for those that can attend. It will be held multiple times between NOON and 3pm on Good Friday. April 3rd.
Today, in my daily reading I was reminded of the power of Psalm 39. I could really just write that entire scripture here because is so powerful. Let me just write a few of the verses that mean the most to me.
"Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered -- how fleeting my life is." (Psalm 39:4, NLT)
"We are merely moving shadows, and all our busy rushing ends in nothing. We heap up wealth, not knowing who will spend it. And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you. Rescue me from my rebellion. Do not let fools mock me." (Psalm 39:6-8, NLT)
"Hear my prayer, O Lord! Listen to my cries for help! Don't ignore my tears. For I am your guest -- a traveler passing through, as my ancestors were before me." (Psalm 39:12, NLT)
What a beautiful, powerful, message to each of us. MY HOPE IS IN YOU LORD. MY ONLY HOPE is in you Lord.
AND God has heard my prayers. He has answered them time and time again. WHO AM I that the LORD OF HEAVEN answers my prayers. I am nothing. But in the EYES of the Lord, I am his precious treasure. That is why I have hope. PRAISE GOD.
I finished my reading today with 1 Corinthians 10 and I was reminded that this life is about OTHERS and not about ME. I really think that goes along with the Psalm and the briefness of my life hear on earth. I have all of eternity to experience the joy of my salvation. Until then, I will serve others that SOME MIGHT BE SAVED.
"I, too, try to please everyone in everything I do. I don't just do what is best for me; I do what is best for others so that many may be saved." (1 Corinthians 10:33, NLT)
Heavenly Father, I need you. I need your strength. I need the strength you used to overcome the pain and suffering on the cross to defeat death and sin forever. I praise you and are completely humbled by your sacrifice for me. My life on earth is short. Help me make it count, not for my glory, but for yours. Help me to focus on encouraging others to rely upon you. Help me to guide others to KNOW YOU MORE. I praise your name, Lord JESUS, and bow in adoration to you. AMEN!
