We need each other!

 

I really can't believe there are people who misunderstand the roles and differences between men and women. I could not live without my wife. She is very different than I am. We think differently and that is exactly why I value her opinion above all others. I think the phrase "she completes me," is a great way of stating this. Social media is a good analogy. 

I am sure you realize that if you search for something on the internet and specifically through social media, you are flagged and they start sending you information about those items you search. It is a great marketing tool. It is a bit weird. But, this system can also be taken to far. As you go through your friends list, how many of them think like you. Do you have anyone on the list who you vehemently disagree with. Most people do not. Let me just make this statement:

"We get better through diversity of thought!"

Just like men and women compliment each other because we think differently, I love to hear wide ranging opinions even when they disagree with me. We need to have PEOPLE of DIVERSE opinions in our circle of influence. It is not because we want to change our mind or necessarily change theirs. But, I need to know differing views, even from my enemies. KNOWING DIVERSE THOUGHTS should shore up your own beliefs, not convince you to change. 

So, when we read 1 Corinthians 11 about the differences between men and women, we should celebrate our differences and not be offended. That is why I love this verse:

"But among the Lord's people, women are not independent of men, and men are not independent of women. For although the first woman came from man, every other man was born from a woman, and everything come from God." (1 Corinthians 11:11-12, NLT)

WE NEED EACH OTHER. When we are married, the two become one. That includes physical togetherness but it also means spiritual, mental, and intellectual togetherness. NOT, that we start thinking alike, but that we combine our diverse thinking to get a complete picture. Women are DIFFERENT than men (not better, not worse) and that is the STRENGTH IN OUR RELATIONSHIP. We need that diversity.

Heavenly Father, I praise you for the differences between men and women. That is exactly why we are told you created woman out of man. You made it so we COMPLETE EACH OTHER. That is why I praise you. I do not know what would become of me if it weren't for the women in my life. I praise you that you thought so highly of man that you wanted to provide a partner, an intimately close, partner. I praise you for that wonderful gift. Amen!
