BECAUSE!

Some days I don't feel like I am much of a leader.  When things go wrong, when trials mount up, I have a tendency to believe they are all  BECAUSE of me.

I know those thoughts are not from God.

I was reminded of that this morning reading Psalm 71:

"My life is an example to many, because you have been my strength and protection. That is why I can never stop praising you; I declare your glory all day long. And now in my old age, don't set me aside. Don't abandon me when my strength is failing." (Psalm 71:-9, NLT)

The key word here is BECAUSE. If I am any kind of example to others it isn't because I have managed to eliminate all trials, all pain, all the wrongs of this world. IF I AM AN EXAMPLE to anyone it is only BECAUSE of GOD and his perfect strength and protection.

The older I get, the more I need God's strength and protection. I also need to realize the EXAMPLE I SET has nothing to do with me and has everything to do with God. Left on my own, as a leader, or otherwise, I am a complete failure. However, with God I am completely up to any task. And one thing I know, it is in my weakness that HE IS MADE STRONG. AND God will never abandon or leave me.

I need to yield to his perfection realizing I cannot be perfect. I will fail.

"Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me. Your righteousness, O God, reaches to the highest heavens. You have done such wonderful things. Who can compare with you, O God?  You have allowed me  to suffer much hardship, but you will restore me to life again and lift me up from the depths of the earth. You will restore me to even greater honor and comfort me once again." (Psalm 71:18-21, NLT)

Thank you, Lord, for your love, your strength, your protection, and your everlasting kindness. You make me strong when I am weak. You make me strong even in my failures. Thank you, Lord, for who you are! Amen!
