I don't have THAT MUCH POWER!
Well, after some time away, being a GRANDPARENT, Stephanie and I are back home and I can spend some more consistent time writing. Every time I think about how much I love writing this blog, I just marvel at that statement. Writing has been a great way for me to connect with the Lord. I hear him speak to me and when I don't take the time to write my thoughts it is like I am missing a key part of my life. For a MATH guy, that barely survived English, that is a miraculous statement.
Today, I was reading Romans 4 and thinking about these verses:
"Abraham never wavered in believing God's promises. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises." (Romans 4:20-21, NLT)
I was struck by the key phrase, "GOD IS ABLE."
We had a women's conference this weekend at our church. Several women who came to the church, not members of our church, not members of our community, commented on how they could feel the Spirit as they entered into our church. They could feel that God was moving in this place and was about to do GREAT THINGS. Earlier this past week, when we were gone, Heidi led our BOILER ROOM MONDAY prayer and she has been talking about GOD DOING BIG THINGS in our church. I just love how God speaks to us and gives us messages of confirmation.
I have a confession. I have been able to feel God's Spirit as well and my thoughts quickly turn to, "Don't mess this up!" Then right when I say that, or think that, I realize how dumb it is. How much power do I think I really have? Do I think I am capable of thwarting the plans of the ALMIGHTY GOD? If God has big plans for this church do I think I am powerful enough to stop them? Of course not!
My faith is stronger now than it ever has been before but I still need to be more like Abraham and be fully convinced God is able to do whatever he promises. I believe he is fully able to do with this church as he will. I see him working. I feel his presence and he has confirmed his plan, over and over again. The gates of HELL and STEVE RHOADES will not prevail.
Today, I am praising YOU, LORD, for what you have done, what you are doing, and what you are about to do. I cannot wait to see your hand continue to work in the lives of South Memorial. Thank you Lord! Amen!
