Don't! Don't! Don't!
Are you one of those people who think FAITH is just a list of RULES? I have not one that ever believed that theory of "RELIGION." That is a little strange because I have a great tendency to be a rule follower. That is not always true, especially with "SPEEDING" but I do not like to break rules.
"You have died with Christ, and he has set you free from the spiritual powers of this world. So why do you keep on following the rules of the world, such as, 'Don't handle! Don't taste! Don't touch!'? Such rules are mere human teachings about things that deteriorate as we use them. These rules may seem wise because they require strong devotion, pious self-denial, and severe bodily discipline. But they provide no help in conquering a person's evil desires." (Colossians 2:20-23, NLT)
The CHURCH WORLD so often has fell back on a bunch of rules over relationships. How we worship, music, which bible to use, how to take communion, baptize, and a list of other RULES. But, the real purpose gets lost in the shuffle. We are about people building a deep, authentic, relationship with JESUS CHRIST. I am not even saying those other things are bad, but they sure seem to dominate our faith. It looks like those things are more important than LOVING GOD and LOVING PEOPLE. It is through those two commands that we have real faith.
Heavenly Father, help us to focus on the do's and not the don'ts. Help us to focus on relationships and not make this a court of law enforcing a huge list of rules. Guide us in making this clear to non-believers and believers. We cannot do this without you. We cannot keep rules and relationships in the proper perspective if we have to rely on our own will. But, LORD, we know you are the power we need. Please walk with us Lord. Amen!
