INEGRITY at HOME?
ARE YOU DIFFERENT AT HOME?
I have never thought too much about this question. I always assumed I AM WHO I AM! While I do love to come home and relax and I love my afternoon naps, I really don't consider myself to be a different person at home or outside the home. But, I know this is not always true. I have seen enough reports from PK's (Pastors Kids) that tell of a JEKYLL and HYDE father or mother who are otherwise involved in ministry. I mean, yes, Stephanie and I have conversations at home that we would not have in public. We share thoughts about our day, interactions with people, the good, the bad, and the ugly, but we are the same people at home. BUT, We don't where a mask in public representing a FALSE FACE and then remove it when we come home.
Psalm 101 is the definition of a REAL AUTHENTIC LIFE. All of the I WILL statements are so important. One of the most telling of those statements is Psalm 101:2, but the entire Psalm is worth the read asking, are we authentic, genuine, grace filled Christians, or are we two different people housed in one body?
"I will sing of your love and justice, Lord. I will praise you with songs. I will be careful to live a blameless life -- when will you come to help me? I LEAD A LIFE OF INTEGRITY in my home. I will refuse to look at anything vile and vulgar. I hate all who deal crookedly; I will have nothing to do with them. I will reject perverse ideas and stay away from every evil. I will not tolerate people who slander their neighbors. I will not endure conceit and pride. I will search for faithful people to be my companions. Only those who are above reproach will be allowed to serve me. I will not allow deceivers to serve in my house, and liars will not stay in my presence. My daily task will be to ferret out the wicked and free the city of the Lord from their grip." (Psalm 101, NLT, emphasis added)
This Psalm gives us pretty clear marching orders to life a life of integrity and we should do that through all circumstances no matter where we are, no matter what we are doing, or who we are with. God himself is the same yesterday, today, and forever. We should model our life imitating him to the best of our ability.
Being authentic and non-hypocritical is a great testimony to those who are not followers of JESUS.
Heavenly Father, Help me to be an example of integrity for the world to see. Help me to represent you to the people I am with everyday. Give me your strength to be able to live as you lived when you walked on this planet. Lord, we praise you for all things and for the joy of our salvation, now and forever more. AMEN!
