THE THRILL OF VICTORY.....!

 

Do you remember the opening of ABC's WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS! 

"Spanning the globe to bring you the constant variety of sports.THE THRILL OF VICTORY and THE AGONY OF DEFEAT! The human drama of athletic competition. This is ABC's Wide World of Sports."

I remember the ski jumper crashing and those famous words about the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.

I was thinking about being THRILLED in life and how often that really happens. As a follower of Jesus we might change that slogan a little bit:

THE THRILL of VICTORY WHILE EXPERIENCING THE AGONY OF DEFEAT!

 I thought about being THRILLED  because of this scripture from the Psalms:

"It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to the Most High. It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning, your faithfulness in the evening, accompanied by a ten-stringed instrument, a harp, and the melody of a lyre. You thrill me, Lord, with all you have done for me! I sing for joy because of what you have done." (Psalm 92:1-4, NLT)

 Being a pastor means you are exposed to all sorts of sorrow and pain on a regular basis. People reach out to you just needing comfort and an ear to listen to their trials. I know it seems odd to say it, I am privileged to be able to share even just a SMALL PART of the LOAD. I AM THRILLED to be a part of the agony people face. I sing God's praises because he allows me to be a part of so many people's lives. It is an honor to serve him as we walk through trials together. 

I AM THRILLED to be called a child of God. I am thrilled to be used as a sounding board for people in their sorrow, their pain, their trials, and their triumphs. Sometimes all of those things happen on the same day. It still brings a smile to my face knowing the LORD has chose ME to serve him by providing comfort during a crisis, by providing an ear to listen, and I am thrilled to share their pain by reaching out to the LORD on their behalf. Thank you Lord!

Lord, I truly love you and I feel so THRILLED and HONORED to be called to shepherd a flock of your people. I am thrilled with the opportunity to listen the pain, be a part of the struggles, and to fulfill my onw duty: love and care for your people. I don't have answers, I can't fix everything, yet there is still the joy of just helping people know you in their hour of need. Thank you LORD. Please continue to use me in anyway you see fit. I trust you more than I could ever imagine. Amen!
