How are your INVESTMENTS?
What kind of investments have you made?
Stephanie and I are not big financial investors. We were investors while we were teaching and we are still putting away a little money right now. Even though we are still "working," I feel like I am retired and living off of my investments. I get to do what I want to do, which is to serve the Lord. Being a pastor really doesn't seem much like work. (I know some of my pastor friends might disagree with that!) I just don't feel the same kind of burden I used to feel going into work on a daily basis. I still have regular hours. I have deadlines to meet, I have staff to manage, problems to deal with, financial challenges, and just the regular routine of church life. But, none of it seems like work. In reality, I get paid to study God's word, pray, and worship. In my mind and heart, I have the privilege of INVESTING in PEOPLE. Don't tell anyone, but I would do that for nothing! LOL!
Everything I have, all my time, my finances, my energy, are all invested in God's kingdom. And I couldn't be happier doing what I am doing. God is truly amazing and I marvel at his handiwork. I marvel at how he can invest in a man like me and make an impact on his kingdom. Praise God.
"A nobleman was called away to a distant empire to be crowned king and then return. Before he left, he called together ten of his servants and divided among them ten pounds of silver, saying, 'Invest this for me while I am gone.' But his people hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, 'We do not want him to be our king." (Luke 19:12-14, NLT)
Jesus has gone away. He will return and I think that will be soon. He has left each of us TALENTS TO INVEST for the kingdom. He has not given us these talents as burdens, he has given us our talents to bring joy to the kingdom and to our own lives. He is asking you to invest those talents. What are you doing with those investments? Are you investing in the KINGDOM or in this WORLD? Where do you spend your finances, your energy, and your time? When Jesus returns he is going to call you like the king. He is going to ask what you have done with your talents. He will want to know, HOW have you invested in my kingdom?
What will you say?
Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I invested more in worldly things than investing in heavenly things. Please, Lord, guide me to make wise investments of all that I am. Please, Lord, use me in however way you see fit. I praise you for the joy of working in your kingdom as a pastor. It is an honor and a privilege beyond my wildest dreams. Please continue to guide my investment of time and talent. Help me to see the path you have laid before me and help me to stay on that path until you return. Amen!
