The more I READ, the more I KNOW!
For those that have read the Bible for years, you know what I am about to say is true.
"I am completely amazed at how much I continue to learn when I read scriptures I have read for years and years and years."
Today I was reading the familiar story of the birth of John the Baptist in Luke 1. All the sudden I realized Zechariah had been unable to talk until 8 DAYS AFTER the birth of John. For some reason I always thought of him being able to speak directly after the birth of his son.
I am not sure this revelation has any real deep theological significance, but it just struck me. At a moment when you want to express your joy at the birth of your son, after going for years not believing you would even have a son, you are unable to speak!
"When it was time for Elizabeth's baby to be born, she gave birth to a son. And when her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had been merciful to her, everyone rejoiced with her. When the baby was eight days old, they all came for the circumcision ceremony. They wanted to name him Zechariah, after his father. But Elizabeth said, 'No! His name is John!' 'What?' they exclaimed. 'There is no one in all your family by that name.' So they used gestures to ask the baby's father what he wanted to name him. He motioned for a writing tablet, and to everyone's surprise he wrote, 'His name is John.' Instantly Zechariah could speak again, and he began praising God!"(Luke 1:57-64, NLT)
Finally, Zechariah is able to speak and he instantly begins praising God! I am sure that was an amazing moment for everyone. AND it is significant that Zechariah PRAISED GOD!
How many of us act like we can't speak. We have not been silenced like Zechariah, but we act as if we have. How often do YOU PRAISE GOD? How often do we publicly sing God's praises and let everyone know what God has done for us. Scripture says ALL of CREATION praises God. EVEN THE ROCKS CRY OUT!
Heavenly Father, please forgive me for not giving you all the honor and glory and praise you so rightly deserve. I have a voice and do not use it for you as I should. I need to proclaim your greatness to all the earth and you, Lord, are greater than all things. All I am, All I have, even just my existence, is because of you. Thank You Lord for loving me, showing me your grace and mercy. Amen!
