My FRONT PORCH!

 

Each morning for the past several weeks, I have had the opportunity to enjoy this view. Because of this beautiful weather, the mornings have been perfect to sit outside on the front porch and just bask in the presence of the Lord. The birds chirping, an occasional rabbit passes by, and the flowers bloom and grow, they are all signs of the GLORY OF GOD. As I sit, study his words in scripture, pray a quiet prayer, meditate on an upcoming sermon, or just sit with a blank mind, the Heavens proclaim his glory, the skies his craftsmanship, and the CREATOR GOD speaks to my heart.

"The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. God has made a home in the heavens for the sun. It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding. It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race. The sun rises at one end of the heavens and follows its course to the other end. Nothing can hide from its heat. The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving my soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple." (Psalm 19:1-7, NLT)

Even though there is a constant roar of traffic on the nearby highway, there is a peace to this scene I face each morning. People have already started their day. They are filled with tasks to complete a job and to earn some money. But even so, there is such a peace sitting in God's presence on MY FRONT PORCH. 

I remember the days when clocks and schedules ruled by life, when bells for passing periods, rang on a continuous schedule. And even though I have a list of tasks to perform every day, it seems very different when you know it is for the LORD and HIS GLORY. I am certainly privileged to have been given this task. Yet, in reality, even if you are hustling off to work in the morning, even if you have deadlines controlled by a corporation or a boss, take some time to SEE THE HEAVENS PROCLAIM THE GLORY OF GOD! Take some time to just sit in the presence of the LORD ALMIGHTY. God is speaking to us constantly and yes, sometimes it is with his still small voice, sometimes it is in the quiet of his creation, sometimes it is through the pages of scripture, and sometimes he speaks in the miracles of life. If we would just stop and listen, oh the chorus we would hear. 

Heavenly Father, it seems so strange to be able to converse with the one who made it all. It seems strange to sit in the presence of the one who knew me when I was being formed. Yet, strange as it is I thank you for the opportunity. May I never forget how precious this time is with you. May I do all I can throughout my day to invite others to this precious relationship. Lord, thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, for being a God who cared so much that you would come down and rescue us from the sins in our lives. Words cannot adequately proclaim YOUR GLORY, WHO YOU ARE! Amen!
